The American College of Radiology (ACR) has named The Toledo Hospital Breast Care Center a “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.” The designation means the center earned the highest accreditation in mammography, breast ultrasound, ultrasound-guided biopsy and stereotactic breast biopsy.

There around about 8,500 mammography facilities in the U.S., and only about 300 centers receive this recognition, according to the ACR.

“We’re proud to be among the nation’s few hospitals with this prestigious distinction, which would not have been possible without our dedicated and highly-skilled medical staff,” notes The Toledo Hospital President Kevin Webb.

To receive this designation, The Toledo Hospital Breast Care Center voluntarily participated in a review process that included evaluation of personnel, equipment performance, and effectiveness of quality control measures and met and exceeded nationally accepted patient care standards.

“Patients who visit our center, or any ProMedica breast imaging facility in metro Toledo, should have a high level of confidence because they have access to premier imaging technology and specialists,” says Robin Shermis, MD, medical director, TTH Breast Care Center.

The center offers the latest technology and comprehensive screening and diagnostic services with specially-trained technologists and registered nurses who specialize in breast care. Board-certified breast radiologists are members of Toledo Radiological Associates, a locally owned and operated practice.

The ACR, is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists. It is headquartered in Virginia, with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology, as well as the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
